The Authorised state is required for functions involving clear text data.
The A command is used to enter the Authorised state. It can be used online or offline. The HSM prompts for either Smartcard entry or Passwords, as applicable, and a PIN which must be 4 to 8 alphanumeric characters.
Entering the Authorised State
The exact method used depends on how the HSM was set up using the CS (Configure Security) command.
If the HSM is set up to use Smartcard mode, with Echo on, proceed as follows:

Cancelling the Authorised State
The C (Cancel) command is used to cancel the Authorised state. The HSM responds NOT AUTHORIZED. An HSM reset (performed by pressing the RESET button on the front panel) also cancels the Authorised state.
